When doing a Business Excellence project, the first thing you need to do is to “Start Collecting and Collating Data and Results” as that takes time. Over the years of doing Business Excellence Project, it never amaze me to see consultants and clients making this fundamental mistakes of not doing this step first.
They tend to do the “results” last, perhaps because it is usually the last item on the assessment scorecard checklist. Doing this will make you fail so don’t do it.

As my mentor Stephen Covey wisely said, always “Do the First Things First” (this is the 2nd habit of highly effective people). If you think about it, doing business is all about results isn’t it? Why do you work so hard? It is to make a living, to aim for a good job that pays well so that you can use the salary you earn to buy what you need isn’t it?
So let’s start by doing any Business Excellence Project with this part first.

For this section, we are using “DARK BLUE” for the Tables. This is deliberate and a link to the famous concept called “Let’s reach for the moon, and if we don’t get it, at least we get the stars”.
The philosophy is to set stretched goals and if we do not achieve it, then we will achieve something higher than what we would have planned.

Doing this fast will help you collate sufficient data for the Business Excellence Audit and help you to get better scores than when nothing is done. If you immediately do 1 survey prior to project and then another survey after project / just before the site assessment, you will be able to score points for having data for comparisons and improvements purposes.

Doing all these surveys will also help you do a “temperature” check for your business. It’s a bit like checking the blood pressure to see if you are fine when you see a doctor. The results of the survey will reveal to you areas to take note of.

Business Excellence is a journey to implement best practices to help your company improve. By doing all these, you are doing the key things – the most difficult things of the project. So kudos for rolling your sleeves up and getting the job done. Your bosses will be so proud of you

The Gist
When you look at the criteria, there are a few key areas where you need to collect data first and fast! When you attend my training – I will give you the Matrix to analyze how I do this part of the work. But for now, you can use the info given below to help you do it.
I do not share this online because many of the stuff I am sharing are proprietary to my consultancy practice. They are my secret recipes if I can put it that way. I am also aware of my competitors using my site to pull out resources for their own work. While I am honored they are using my materials to help their clients, I will not give away all my secret recipes here =) And I am most happy to share with my clients and prospects.
Below are some key things I will start to work on immediately to give myself ample time to do the rest of the work. Again, the concept is like that of getting healthy and losing weight. One cannot lose 10 kg in 1 day ! But one can do so over a reasonable time frame – eg: over 5 months. The same concept goes for data collection. Using my methodology and online tools, you will get things done easily and hassle free without undue stress to yourself and your colleagues. Space it out, start taking bite sized nibbles at the big elephant and voila, in just a little while, you will get everything done!

· Business Scorecard (some call it the balanced scorecard)

Things I will do immediately are:
Start to compile corporate information pertaining to the below items. You may have to ask your colleagues for the info and you do have to give them some time to get back to you. If you are too pushy, you risked them bad mouthing you and the project so never “offend” people so to speak. Be professional and courteous. It always help to have a Project Champion who will speak up for you and the Business Excellence Project. I will address this “Soft Skill Portion” later on.

· List of Marketing Activities done
· Brand Collaterals compilation
