Right after results, we will immediately look at Leadership because a company rise and fall with the level of leadership within the firm itself.
Importance of leadership
In the Business Excellence Project, we will look at Leadership from the following angles.
Of particular importance will be the following 3 points, from which the company will either rise or fall
Mission and purpose – concept of starting with WHY
Vision and Business Proposition – concept of Business Canvas Modeling
Values – the concept of Culture and Values and its impact on profit
In essence, we are saying that if a company leadership can truly understand and master the above 3 points, they will do well and be the leader in the industry

One of the key things assessor look for in a Business Excellence Project is the concept of :
Approach – Deployment – Results
What we are saying is : do you talk the walk (Approach) and walk the talk (Deployment)? And is the outcome what you aim for (Results)?
Or is your so called Business Excellence reports just pages of BS
A seasoned assessor can smell BS from a mile off, so it’s pointless trying to smoke your way through.
The Leadership Indicators
And there is a way for you to score point for this phase, and that is to demonstrate “Leadership where it matters”. Those items that assessors look for are in fact, critical for business success. Using our example of a Triage in a Hospital settings, this means looking out for critical health indicators that means life and death. So if you are allergic to a medication, and the nurses did not check on that and dispenses the medicine to you, you will suffer from the allergic reaction.
The same goes for the Business Excellence leadership modules. Leadership in itself is a very broad subjects that many gurus try to address. The number of books and resources on leadership development are in the hundreds of thousands ! But in the Business Excellence Project, you will zoom in on those critical few leadership indicators that when you practice and master, you will constantly be at the forefront of success.
The Leadership Model
Specifically for the Business Excellence Project, we are looking at how leaders manage not only this project but also all the other key initiatives happening within the company. And for this point, I will be applying the concept from one of my mentors and hero, Mr Edward Deming, the founding father of the TQM movement in Japan and globally.
The model is the masterfully simple : PDCA Model but with an enhanced Business Excellence Twist
PDCA = Plan Do Check Act
For us, we will be putting a “R” in the middle of everything, and that “R” is for “Review”
For everything we do, we have to review what is working and what is not
The key is to have a list of things we need to work on and improve
Of actions we take and the resulting outcomes
Are we pleased with it or not
